First option of select is not selected

#193

I am trying to get the selected element of a dropdown using jquery:

jquery('select').val()

In every browser (FF11, Chrome1x, IE9) this function returns 0, even if no element was selected manually, in the code or in the HTML markup.
EnvJS returns -1 which may be correct, as no element was previoulsy selected, but differs from the behaviour of all tested browsers.

Any chance of changing this?
